Brodiaea and Calochortus

I knew they would pull themselves down, and part of the reason for my question was how much space they needed to get to a good blooming depth. The gophers definitely have a field day at my house. I always wonder how the native calochortus avoid them. I do have an 8 inch azalea pot handy, and will go with that.
Thanks so much for your advice!
