Plant guidebooks and taxonomy

But you can! There is a CD-ROM version of a very elaborate guide to plants 
of the Pacific Northwest states (not California yet), reviewed in a recent 
issue of the Rock Garden Quarterly and now distributed through the New York 
Botanical Garden, I believe. And the new AGS journal has a review of a very 
inexpensive CD-ROM guide to plants of the Mediterranean. Other references 
of this type exist, too.

Now all we have to do is get little notebook computers to view them, with 
good rechargeable batteries, and converters that we won't be scared to use 
anywhere, including hotels in the Atacama with loose electric wires strung 
all over the walls....

I'm sure technology will catch up with our desires in this regard; then our 
problem will be catching up with the technology.
