The question would be: Do bulbs from Mediterranean climates
> naturalize in your area? In other words, do they reappear every year
without
> being lifted?

I live in So. Calif, Los Angeles county. The only time I lift a plant out is to divide because they grow so well in my climate zone. Hot in the summer upto 110, to winters as low as 32. To name a few that are in the ground all the time are Amaryllis, Belladonnas, Scilla peruviana, Freesia, Iris, Agapantha, Sparxia, Watsonia, Allium, Chasmanthe, Crocosmia, Oxalis, Pineapple Lily, Succulents of all types, Crinum, Calla lilys and so many more. I also have 40 baskets of Epiphyllums hanging under trees(100 more in pots on bakerracks), and 10 varieties of citrus and avacodo trees. My only complaint is the heat and smog of summer and too many people. I always say I want to move, but where? My plant may not like it,
