The best success I've had with Lewisia is in the shade or morning sun. They burn terribly in full sun. Overwintering (zone 5b) success was only in full scree conditions. Winter wetness can do them in, clay soils especially. Mine do best totally dry in winter, planted in haydite or gravel. Michael freeeeeezing in Cleveland
