Mary Sue, et al.
As you know, I posted a photo of mine to the wiki
sometime ago. I had 2 or 3 bulbs bloom this spring.
The remainder that I have are smaller offsets. I am
not sure how long it will take for them to get to
flowering size with my growing practices since I don't
fertilize, I have a very lean mix and well, water is
very erratic with my travel and work schedule. I
actually joke that they get better care when I am out
of town than when I am here. <G>
Anyhew, Mine came from Elizabeth at Grassy Knolls. I
didn't see them on her list last time I looked. I got
several Phaedranassa and also Stenomessons at the same
time. They are all planted in the same area. Some are
in 1 gallons and the smaller ones are in 4" pots. The
medium is basically gromulch and not much else. There
might have been some commercial potting mix around at
the time that I added to but I don't think so.
They get sun from about 11 until 3 the rest of the
time is full shade. I've never had any leaf burn or
trouble with them. But, I am only 2 blocks from the
beach. Since these are montane species, I think they
enjoy the milder climate here.
I would love to get a proper poting mix for these
bulbs so that they can be pushed a little.
Is there a key for them somewhere? I have a complete
set of Herbertia and Plant Life. I could look there
but some guidance would be helpful since there is 70+
years to go through.
