Xerophyta sprouting?

Is this a plant or seeds? If a plant, try burning it. In the wild,
Xerophyta retinervis often looks dead for months on end. In winter a fire
sweeps through the grass, the Xerophyta plants are burned, and they
immediately begin to sprout. If seeds, perhaps try smoke.
