Mystery corm

Hi Carol:
Bowiea is now regarded as being an Ornithogalum. It is actually a true bulb,
not a corm. It is extremely poisonous in all its parts. It is peculiar in
that it seldom shows any leaves. As an adult, only when the plant is really
happy in cultivation; it produces two or three short oblong leaves like
those of Lachenalias. The "vine" is a series of branched peduncles that make
photosynthesis just like leaves do in normal plants. Dry winter dormant in
well drained soil and prefers some shade in the hot wild original habitat.
The bulbs are grown out of the ground (liek other Ornithogalums do).
All the best
Alberto
