Hi Susan:
Exactly. The trillions of pots in the nursery industry have lateral 
drainage. Even those irrigated by capillary mating. Otherwise they would be 
wasting the lower portion of the pot from the stagnant water. You are the 
happy owner of good pots. By adjusting the componenets of the mix you can 
obtain perfect growing condition for the roots.
