Perhaps I should not mention this (because I have worked so hard to give the impression that I am a model of temperate studiousness), but on a lark I used saffron to dye part of my hair awhile back. At my age (born in 1943) and with my hair (silver gray) the saffron streak was very conspicuous. Perhaps Francis Bacon would be pleased to know that it is not only the English whom "it maketh sprightly". Why am I admitting this? It must be a Halloween thing. Jim Crococomes McKenney
