Heating cables.

Dear All:

Winter is coming, indeed certain parts of the country have had snow
already.

Has anyone tried placing heating cables in the soil under bulbs
controlled by a thermostat, to enable one to grow bulbs in a zone where,
if in the 'normal' outdoor border without such, they would be killed? I
am refering to bvulbs without growth above ground in winter. Would such
enable a person to grow bulbs normally grown in higher zones than where
planted? Mulched in addition to the cables, such would act as an
insulation, as glass in a heated frame. Cheers, John E. Bryan
