Hallo Mary, I have most often seen Hesperantha coccinea growing in shallow water and on the muddy banks along streams near Dullstroom in South Africas Northern Province. I grow mine in pots standing in shallow water througout the year and they usually flower during the hight of summer i.e. December to January, so I doubt it's rain that induces flowering.
