Jim Shields and others: you might want to go back and re-read the postings from Lauw Dejager and myself on this topic. Lauw lives in an area which allows him to have both Phoenix canariensis (a date palm which in east coast of North America terms is a zone 9 plant) and flourishing, flowering Lycoris squamigera. There is a puzzle here I don't understand.
