Dear Jim,

Northern California reporting: My records since 2000 show it always 
blooming in December, but sometimes starting in November and sometimes 
starting in December in which case it continues until January. This year's 
crop started blooming in November and just finished late December.

So some years you could technically call it late fall and other years early 
winter bloom.
