I fessed up and admitted that I really didn't know what meadia meant, but
if it was Latin it would be four syllables.

Hi,

Jim's rule of thumb is pretty good.

Years ago as an altar boy I was trying to learn prayers in Latin. I asked
about pronunciation and the preist told me somethink like, "Latin is a dead
language, pronounce the words anyway you want and no one can correct you."

Then, he urged me to concentrate on speed rather than pronunciation.
