Urginea macrocentra

Thanks to encouragement from Mary Gutierrez and Mary Sue, I've added a picture of Urginea macrocentra to the wiki (see http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/… ).

This plant is quite common in the foothills of the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg and is quite odd indeed - with leaves resembling an oversized onion. While the inflorescence is quite striking the small white flowers certainly are not

I must apologize for the poor quality image (a scan from a slide of dubious quality), but I will try and get a few better ones to add to the wiki this year when they are flowering in the spring.

Regards from a cool, windy and moist KwaZulu-Natal (can you believe it but Johannesburg has just had snow - the first time in two decades!).

Rogan.
