I've ordered seeds of both species from Silverhill Seeds several
times, as well as gotten seeds from my own plants. And in both cases
I planted them in 4 inch pots using my "standard" seeding mix (50%
cactus soil and 50% seed starting soil which is just peat moss and
perlite and vermiculite mixed) at the beginning of fall when the days
are still warm but the nights have started to get chilly. Kept the
soil barely moist until the winter rains started (or watered them
when the rains should have started) and in every case they all had
good germination. A lot of seeds from mediterranean climates
germinate quite well if you wait until autumn and let the warm days
and chilly nights trigger them into germinating.
