For those in warmer climes, a quick note from "another Polar Garden".

12" - 15" of snow in sunny Chicago Botanic Garden has been on the ground
for about 10 days. Approximately 1" of ice between snow and soil with 1
inch of ice on top of the snow due to slight thawing in sunshine and
then refreezing at night.

Weather forecasters are predicting between 8 and 16" of new snow is
possible on Saturday night going into Sunday morning.

Before this mess hit we had one report of a brave (fool hardy) Galanthus
in flower. Vole predation on plants is expected to be severe.
