Let's not forget that a great many important economic plants are non-native. 
Wheat, barley, rice among them, also apples and other fruit trees, dates, and 
God knows what else. And corn, tomatoes, chocolate, vanilla, potatoes, most 
beans, squash, tobacco, and pumpkins are exotic to the Old World.
