Like Jim, I would like to know what triggers Lycoris squamigera to bloom.
My situation is this:
I bought a large number of Lycoris squamigera bulbs from two different sources.
I planted my bulbs in groups in the same sort of soil not 200 feet apart
and yet the two groups bloom almost two weeks apart.
The second group in particular all came up within a day of each other.
The first group has straggled up within 5 days of each other.

Is it possible that there is some genetic variation in Lycoris squamigera
in spite of its being produced mainly by bulb chipping?

Thanks,
