Hi Ron,

It seems that I neglected to answer your second question.  I tend to err on
the side of caution when it comes to the amount of organic medium that I add
to potting media for geophytes in Hawai'i.  Organic matter decomposes quite
rapidly in these conditions and sometimes roots will begin to rot before I
am even aware of it.  To prevent this I try to use as little organic
material as possible.  Horticultural pumice is remarkable and I have not had
trouble growing many bulb species in it without adding anything else.  It is
not available for purchase in Hawai'i so I import it from the US mainland.
