Spontaneous seed set on Hippeastrum

Tetraploid (2n = 44 chromosomes) hippeastrum hybrids and those few 
tetraploid spp., frequently self pollinate and set seed.  The 
self-incompatability of deiploid amaryllis breaks down when the 
chromosomes are doubled.
