mystery bulb answer

  Thanks Mary Sue.  By the Wiki page, that is exactly what it is, with 
the unusual thickened bit in the stalk where the flower comes out.  Paul 
from Australia also suggested that is what it is.  Nice to have it 
identified.

Will post a pic of it later to confirm, but have been watching it 
develop and not felt very patient about wanting to find out what it is.  
Don't flowers seem to take for ever to develop when one is wanting a 
photo of it?
