Visiting plant people in other countries (was: What's the deal with Hippeastrum arboricolum?)

It is possible to visit quite a few places in the U.K. by bus, and one  
can plan ahead from home as English local bus schedules and maps are  
online.  I attended a Crocus Group field trip at John's parents' house  
mostly by bus, though someone drove into the village to take me the  
final distance.
