Manfreda/Agave virginica

In the by lines to a recent post I mentioned that some hybrid lilies here
are approaching 9 feet in height.

Manfreda virginica, which is blooming for the first time here, has an
inflorescence which is already over six feet high - and the lowest flower
bud has yet to open.

Is it something in the water - or just so much water?
