Tropaeolum tricolor and vertical gardening

Max,

My experience is that T. tricolor wants to climb up, unlike T. majus that
just clambers on other plants. This habit is more suitable for hanging down.
You can probably stick some non-bamboo stakes in your window
box/polyethylene bag and have your tricolor climb on them. The species isn't
particularly vigorous and doesn't climb too far. It may outgrow the stakes
in a few years when the tubers get really big.
