Iris anguifuga - pseudo-bulbous??

 I think clay would be better, but that is what I've grown it on in two separate gardens. It is much happier in my loamy soil here in east Tennessee than it was in the hard clay in Kansas. Nearly going dormant now, but it had a half dozen or more flowers this year.

Can it survive in sand or it is better on clay?
