Iris unguicularis is starting to flower here in Portland, Oregon as
well, though the rain is spoiling the blooms.

I don't have 'Mary Barnard' but would like to get it. I've had
'Walter Butt' for about 15 years and find it very easy to grow here.
In fact there is a big clump of it in my former garden that I gave up
on moving because it's so rooted in. I put some in my brother's
garden near Monterey, California, and it just exploded in growth.
Perhaps our dry summers are more to its liking than what it gets in England.
