wireless outdoor thermometers

Now that I have had a cold frame in operation for more than a year, with wireless outdoor thermometers, I can report on the durability of several brands. Yes, several, due to sequential failures.

First to go, and not working at all after 4 weeks, was the Weather Channel thermometer. The indoor unit died a few weeks after the outdoor unit. This is a solar powered unit, so moisture in the wiring of the outdoor unit was suspected.

Second was La Crosse. The outdoor unit died a few weeks into its run. The indoor unit still works. I use it to keep track of temperatures on the indoor windowsill, where it sits.

Third was an Oregon Scientific unit. This one is still operational a year later. It quit working for a few days midsummer, but came back and has worked ever since.
