tulips in warm climates

I am in Zone 9 and my experience has been similar on which tulips will persist...

  As far as creating warm weather tulip hybrids, I have only found seeds on the various forms of T. clusiana. In fact I did sow a pod full this winter and have had excellent germination. Each seedling is a long thread and still has the seed husk attached at the tip (months later) - I guess this is normal, but I have not seen this before.  Anyway I would be interested if anyone has had viable seeds on other warm weather happy tulips...
