Hmmm.  There are always other points of view.  I have never seen "awful
looking leave", even when I lived by San Francisco.  Interesting.

Bearded iris leaves suffer from awful looking leaves on the coast so
gardeners cut off them off.  The fungus likes moist air. I think bearded
iris have unspotted healthy leaves if they grow inland.
