dividing clumps

I was manicuring my flower beds last night and noticed tons of bloom stalks
coming up on some tall-bearded iris clumps that I haven't divided in at
least 5 years. Iris people always say to divide them every 2 or 3 years to
maintain good bloom. But I think these have been in place 5+ years and
they are going to bloom great! Other established clumps of irises are not
producing bloom stalks yet... maybe they won't bloom?

On the other hand, some of my daffodil & tulip clumps have been in place
for 5+ years and they are barely blooming at all. Especially the
daffodils... the clumps are a mountain of green, but maybe just a few
blooms. Other clumps of daffodils are heavy with blooms.

It's all very fascinating!
