No, Eucharis amazonica doesn't need much sun. I had it flowering several times a few years ago. I had it growing inside as a pot plant. I remember I didn't do any chopping. Maybe you didn't water it enough or you fertilized it too much. As far as I remember I only feed it in growing season - using ordinary fertilizer.

If it's Eucharis amazonica, I "rested" them by chopping off all their
leaves, pulling them out of their pot, starve them of water for 2-3 weeks.
I think the important factor is that they should be happy prior to
dormancy. That includes good sun and fertilizers.
