watering the sand between pots in a plunge bed

Hi PBS folks with plunge beds,

Should I only water the pots or should I also water the sand between the pots in a plunge bed?
Mine is outdoors and so when we do get rain, which seems awfully scarce lately, it of course will water between as well as in the pots.
I only recently filled the bed so it has only had one rain event, with 0.18 inches of water.
I water weekly with rain water from a watering can, but only inside the pots. Is that best?
The plants are Moraea, Gladiolus, Dichelostemma, Crocus, Ixia, and Brodiaea.
They are in a low-organic / high-mineral porous mix, topped with pumice.
The between-pots sand is as course as sand gets before it gets called gravel.

Thank you,
Gastil
