I'll second Diana's comments on "NEVER reuse potting soil"!! She is totally correct. When I purchase potted plants even if from someone I've dealt with for years, I bring it home and repot immediately. I have had the misfortune of bringing pests into the nursery (and the consequent task of ridding myself of them) more than once because I was careless.

Folks, it's not worth it! It's no fun at all to have to throw away 5 plants of an uncommon, hard-to-get or rare species because they turn out to be virused or bug-ridden.

If you can't repot immediately, completely isolate them, even under less than ideal conditions. Compost the soil if you know it will heat up properly, otherwise put it into the garbage to be taken away.

Been there - the price was too high...
