Maybe Diana of Telos has a reason for this mixture. I tried it because that is how she described her seed germinating mixture. I don't use vermiculite in any of my potting mixtures not even in my seedling growing mix; only in the mix I put in the ziplock bags. Maybe it holds more moisture than pure perlite, which might make the seeds feel more like they're in real soil than pure perlite would? But I'm just guessing.
