"Anyone else grow and harvest their own?"

I was able to grow Saffron crocus in my yard years ago, before we had gophers. They seemed to re-appear in about even numbers, neither decreasing nor increasing. I only had about 6 corms. I often missed the best time to harvest the anthers. Once gophers moved in, they dissapeared. Perhaps now with the new bulb beds I should try growing them again.

It is notable that most Crocus do not grow well here because the winters are not cold enough in my approximate zone 9b, maybe 10a. Are saffron crocus from a mild winter climate?
