My Veltheimia in Pasadena California also go completly dormant in summer
Those in the ground have now emerged, except for a few on the very hot sunny hillside
Since I do not always catch every seed they will seed themselves too but the seedlings take along time to emerge- maybe January

Ina, recall the hottest summers in NZ and England might be considered goose-down
parka
weather in Phoenix. Both species here remain in leaf and in growth longer than
almost
any other "winter" bulb. Unlike in southern California, both go completely
dormant in
the summer.
