Mine are in the front porch which gets filtered sunlight and have been very happy so far. The seedlings are now in their second season and again going dormant as they did last year. I grow mine in pumice mixed with 1/3 potting mix. I don't think the mix is as important as to keep them dry when dormant. I water around the outside of the pot every so often just to keep the pot from drying out completely.
