surprises in the garden

We are all probably spending more time in the garden now, being at home for several weeks.

I found three bulb surprises grown from seed this week: flowering scillas, one blue and one pink, and a pink corydalis. And the biggest surprise of all, Erythronium grandiflorum, flowering in a hypertufa planter, probably my 5th try. Why it worked this time, I have no idea, and I am thrilled.

As for unpleasant surprises, the worst was something that delivered a sharp stinging pain, once on my forearm, twice along the edge of a headband, mid summer, left no welt, but felt like a cattle prod had jabbed me. Never found the animal that delivered it, either time.
