I too grow mine outside in pots. I just finished the last of the repotting
last week and noticed three or four species were also developing roots and
this was just prior to our heavy rains. In the past I have also let them
take what nature gives them, however this being a la nina year and living
in the Pacific North West I am looking for ways to partially shelter my
bulb frame. While drainage is good, if they is a wetter than normal year
I'd rather take measures to shelter them to some degree to be safe.
