Re Dr Bob's Haemanthus flowering spike which he describes thus "It
gradually rises to a meter tall with a blossom that lasts a month" I
suspect this must be a world record for the species as I have grown it for
50 years here in Australia and flower spikes would be lucky to reach 40cm
!  They regularly set seed and like all Haemanthus species, it is
recalcitrant ie germinates without external stimulus.  The seeds can be
stored in a refrigerator to delay germination but only for a short time
(several weeks tops)
