The PBS Board has discussed the possibility of offering illustrated talks, either recorded or presented live on Zoom, on bulb-related subjects. As an experiment, we're offering members an opportunity to see a program, "Bulbs in their habitats," presented by Jane McGary to the Columbia-Willamette chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society (NARGS) on Thursday, February 5, at 7:30 pm. The chapter routinely provides Zoom attendance to members who live too far away to attend in person. The program is a live Zoom, not a recording, so it won't be convenient for most PBS members who live outside the western USA time zones. However, if you'd like to see the program, which focuses on geophytes growing in nature and the implications for their cultivation, please write to janemcgary@earthlink.net -- do not reply to this list -- and I will email you a copy of the chapter newsletter with the Zoom invitation. If you live in the Portland area, you're always welcome at the chapter's monthly meetings. There is no charge for non-NARGS members to attend. Meetings are held at the Smile Center in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood (on SE 13th Avenue, one block south of Tacoma St.), on the first Thursday of the month, beginning with a social period at 7 pm, program at 7:30, and door prizes and show-and-tell following the talk. April will feature the annual (non-competitive) pot show.
