New Cooperation PBS and MGF

Dear Members of the Pacific Bulb Society,

We want to inform the membership that we are launching a new cooperation
between the PBS and Mediterranean Gardening France (MGF). We are very
grateful to Chantal Guiraud, who is the manager of the MGF seed fund and
who came across with the idea. This cooperation will be evaluated for
one year. If it turns out to be successful, it will continue; if not, we
will discontinue it. Please read the instructions carefully to avoid
frustration.

All paid members of the PBS can from now on participate in the
activities of the MGF, such as garden visits, workshops and
presentations, provided that all MGF members can be accommodated. You
find the current activities on the bilingual MGF website
https://mediterraneangardening.fras/ practically all activities take
place around the French side of the Mediterranean, it is worthwhile
checking the website if you travel to this area.

The other benefits of the new cooperation vary depending on where you
live: in the EU, in the USA, in the UK, or in another country. We are
facing severe restrictions between different countries when it comes to
sending seed. As a society we have to stick to the rules, hence the
different versions and limitations of this cooperation.

*EU members of the PBS*can order seed from the MGF seed fund, which
includes access to the index seminum of the private Botanical Garden of
Château Pérouse near Nîmes in France. Each paid PBS member is entitled
to 10 packets of seed per year free of charge. The expense of seed and
postage is covered by PBS membership dues. Please state that you are a
PBS member when ordering. Orders must be sent to Chantal Guiraud (and
not to Martin Bohnet, who runs the PBS seed exchange)Please follow the
instructions on the website seeds@mediterraneangardening.fr The MGF seed
fund depends on your generosity, so please consider donating seed.

*US members of the PBS*can only order seed from Château Pérouse, and not
from the MGF.

In order to avoid trickling in orders to Château Pérouse repeatedly, a
representative selection of seed will be chosen by the US seed exchange
manager and offered to the US membership in a procedure similar to the
usual seed exchange. The seed will be sent from France to the US in
bulk, using a Small Lots of Seed permit, which will limit the number of
packets to 50. Individual orders from Château Pérouse are not possible,
so please refrain from attempting that. The first offering is scheduled
for autumn sowing this year. We are very grateful to Jan-Willem Vos, the
owner of Château Pérouse, and his team for their generosity and support.

*UK members of the PBS and members from other countries*can participate
in garden visits and other activities of MGF. But unfortunately no seed
orders from an EU country are possible. There may be a (costly)
possibility to order seed from the US seed exchange to the UK. All UK
members will receive a personal email from a mailing list with further
information.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Uli Urban,
coordinator for Europe atjohannes-ulrich-urban@t-online.de
