Basic Wiki Operations

This page describes the steps for uploading a photo to the PBS Wiki and adding a link to the photo and some descriptive text about the photo to an existing Wiki page.

  1. Resize and rename your photo.

  2. Upload the photo using Upload File page.

    1. Copy URL and paste to a text file for later use.
  3. Add photo to existing Wiki page.

    1. Find page.
    2. Click on edit.
    3. Locate corect position on page for addition (alphabetically).
    4. Copy URL from text file to page.
    5. Click on Preview.
    6. Test photo link and use back on browser to go back to your work.
    7. Add descriptive text.

      • describe basic stuff like italic and bold control with a few examples.
      • use
to force photo URLs onto its own line.
      • no embedded carriage returns in paragraphs.
      • link to contributors page if there is one.
    8. Preview multiple times until it looks right.
  4. Pre-Save checklist

    1. Are there any gross spelling or diction problems?
    2. Are genus and species names italicized?
    3. Is the first reference to the plant's name in bold?
    4. Photo links each on their own line?
    5. Does photo credit have a link to the contributor's page (if there is one)?
  5. Save your work

    1. Add a change reason (optional, but sometimes useful).
    2. Press save.
  6. Check finished page

  7. Announce additions to the PBS list

    1. Use page URL, not photo URL

      • Photo may be moved to somewhere else on the file system by one of the Wiki admins.
      • Your descriptive text on the page is as important as the photo.
