Chautemsia

Chautemsia is a monotypic genus in the Gesneriaceae family. It was named in honor of Alain Chautems for his long time research contributions on many gesneriads. It is native to Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The genus is closely related to Brazilian genera Mandirola and Goyazia?. Plants are small and delicate herbs that prefer well-drained soils and low light. Plants have a marked dormancy, dying back to "scaly rhizomes" that are distinctive to some genera of the Gesneriaceae.

Chautemsia calcicola as the species epithet implies, grows on limestone substrates. The photos below were taken by J. Shcofield.
