Commelinaceae or the spiderwort family, consists of 40 genera and approximately 630 which occur throughout tropical and almost all of temperate regions. A high number of species occur in tropical areas. Plants annual or perennial herbs. Leaves and stems are often succulent. Flowers comes in various shades, although very ephemeral, lasting for only several hours. Some species (such as those in the genus Tradescantia) are important ornamental and houseplants. We have two representatives on the wiki in the genus: Commelina and Weldenia.
