Lowiaceae is a member of the Zingiberales and the closest relative to Strelitziaceae. The family is represented by a single genus Orchidantha (Lowia) and 10-16 species which occur throughout southern China to Southeast Asia and Borneo. Plants are rhizomatous herbs with distichous leaves. Flowers artificially resemble orchids. Pods contain numerous globose seeds.
