Uli - I have told the forum to accept .jpeg and .jpe as well as .jpg-maybe it will work now.

Uli - rename. Bob.jpeg becomes Bob.jpg

jpeg, jpg, jpe are all exactly the same thing.

Gastil has another thread where she proves that the forum can't handle some proprietary Apple file formats - true.

But JPEG is a standard, only the extension is not unique,

I expect your attempt to send failed and the message and error are gone.

Uli - when you login there is a time, select "forever"

Pictures and topics remain as long as we pay the server fees.

Why do some thumbnails expand and some not - hard to say without knowing which photos. We have been playing with software extensions for the last nine months, some thumbnails will be orphans from those experiments.

Hi Uli - rename .jpeg to .jpg - but we should allow the common variations jpeg, jpg, jpe

Work is under way to add Othonna to the wiki - independent of the photos on here.

Hi Steve

I fear that is how it is - lots of work turning on notifications for each board by hand - and if the number of boards changes you won't know. No global setting.

I gather people are not keen on forum software churning out a lot of emails.

We might install an extension that sends out a digest of posts each day.

I'd be happy if someone tells me I am wrong...

As I see it, there is "New Topic" to start a new thread, and there is Reply. Instant reply down the bottom, or click on Reply at the bottom of a message.

Quote from: gastil on December 31, 2021, 06:27:00 PMIt apparently takes a minute or two for the photos to appear.

No it does not.

Oops on the Nerine - see how effective stealing is.

Thing is, lets revert to the last release version, can we then get mods we are happy with? I believe not.

Hey Martin... nice bog plants, I always wanted to try those, but never got around to it. Your Nerine are behind mine. Mine have done well, but fading away now.

As to thumbs and images, well this is the nub of the current delay. I believe we should write our own extension that handles them as we want.

Mike Lowitz said something like other people must have done this by now. I've just not found a forum with decent image handling. Given that PBS is currently on a text mail list with poor image handling, it is funny that I expect the step to a forum to involve lots of photos.

As they say, growing plants is a visual business.

I do see lots of bad photo behaviour when roaming around forums. Broken links and vanished photos.

You can of course ignore it, don't care that photos are big and small, links broken, and keep buying disc space for the massive files people upload.

Final word on this, other people have done fine with the forum software that is out there. This forum has been running since March, and it's OK. So over thinking is a possibility.

Was it Donald Trump who said "I think we need to be careful of the Cerberus (false ideal) of perfection.". Probly.

Good work Martin. I see the PDFs are on the server. Should I link them to the BX history page, where the stats for the main BX are collated.

It is useful for people to know if things they want are likely to come up.

Nice blues. I suspect we can control when photos appear - guests or not. Some sites are strict about not letting non-logged-in i.e. guests view content. Maybe bandwidth is an issue.

I have never looked at what may be going on with the wiki.

Yes, removing thumbs for inline images is an issue, feel there is a recent comment on it.

Today I got the mal-alert again. Despite not having been back to the website. I conclude that alerts are genuine push. I found this quote:

"Web push notifications are messages that come from a website. You get them on your desktop or device even when the concerned web page is not open in your browser. They are a brand new/ nascent marketing channel to re engage your visitors without knowing their email or other contact details."

That then is a good thing - if we can make them work - a method of people getting notifications without email, and without something too complex/old like RSS.
