Title: [solved:Wachendorfia t.]Not mine, just found while walking
Post by: petershaw on June 14, 2023, 06:32:29 AM
Quite tall, 4-6' maybe, clumping, may be a bit of a spreader.

Beautiful foliage for sure.

Fits into the tropical theme of the landscape.

Seed pods if anyone is interested.

Beautiful plant! It is Wachendorfia thyrsiflora. There is another Wachendorfia species (W. paniculata) but it is much smaller.

I too have seed pods from my Wachendorfia thyrsiflora and will enter them in the seed swap. In addition to the yellow-orange flowers, the evergreen foliage is beautiful - intense green, striated, flat-swords in a fan shape. The roots are a fluorescent orange-red, hence its common names, red root or bloodroot. They need moisture.
