Title: [closed] SX 480 was open May 29, 2022 to June 13
Post by: David Pilling on May 29, 2022, 03:08:02 PM
Seed Exchange 480 is now open for orders until 5pm PDT, May 31, 2022.
Each paid up member may receive a maximum of 15 packets from the list below.
Non-members may not order seed. Members in arrears for SX/BX may not order seed.
I check.
Limiting the number of seed packets ordered will allow faster processing of orders and
fairer distribution of highly desirable seed.
I will also be randomizing the orders for filling.
Any order submitted by the deadline has an equal chance of being filled first.
All orders should be submitted to seedyjan1@gmail.com <mailto:seedyjan1@gmail.com>
with "SX 480" in the subject line.

Most of the seed packets are now labelled alphabetically with name, item number and
SX number.  Labelling is still a work in progress; labels were accidentally not generated
for item #3. So be patient with the labelling.
The labels do not include additional information such as color, parents etc.
You'll need to transfer that information from the list.
Donor information is also available from the list.
The list now includes the number of packets available and if seed is available to make
additional packets.  The list is available as an attached PDF.
If you wish to print it you'll need to set your computer to landscape mode to see all the
information

Rules for ordering

Your name, address, and email should be listed first on your order.
Give your address just like you would on an envelope.
Don't string it across a line; I can't tell what goes on what line.
This is particularly important for foreign addresses.

For example:
Sue Bulbcrazy
2654 Bulbnut Ln
Bulbnutsville, OR 92013

suebulbcrazy@ggmail.com <mailto:suebulbcrazy@ggmail.com>

Seed is $2 per packet.  Limit 15 packets.
Your bill will reflect credits for any previous SX submissions.
Postage will be charged per the postage meter.
You will receive a bill in your envelope which you can pay online at
https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbsforum/index.php?page=membership <https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbsforum/index.php?page=membership>

List your 15 first choices in numeric order. For example:

13 Narcissus bulbocodium
14 Narcissus cantabricus
15 Romulea rosea

Unless you tell me differently I will assume you'll accept seed from a different donor if
seed from your first choice donor is sold out.

List your alternates in numeric and alphabetical order.
You may star your first choice alternates.
You can also include notes to help me pull seeds that will make you happy.
For example; "any gladiolus seed ok as alternate".
If you don't list alternates I will only send the first choices I have available.
Orders received after the deadline will not be filled.

No seed orders from countries that require a phytosanitary certificate.

Contact me with any questions about the SX procedure, but not about the offerings, at
seedyjan1@gmail.com <mailto:seedyjan1@gmail.com>.
Questions about germination or the suitability of the seed for your climate should be
posted on the forum.

Not all the corrections I provided got into the SX list. Brodiaea "kinkinens" is B. kinkiensis. The others are trivial misspellings that readers can figure out for themselves.

Seed Exchange 480 is now closed.  All the orders will go out in the mail tomorrow.

Some observations from order filling.

Clivias were very popular and went fast.  I didn't have many seeds so a lot of you will unfortunately be disappointed.  Moraeas were also popular and I sold out of most species.  Many people requested calochortus but luckily I had lots of seed of most species so was able to fulfill most requests. Lilies were not popular; perhaps lily lovers are already members of the North American Lily Society and are getting their seed there?. I was surprised most people did not order a full allotment of fifteen packets. I'm used to the NARGS seed exchange where most everyone orders all the seeds they can get. So you are a selective bunch I still have left over seed and will probably organize some grab bags in the near future.

Some of you have trouble following directions.  I asked for addresses at the top of the seed requests and often found them at the bottom.  I want the addresses at the top because it makes addressing and printing the postage stickers easier for me.  When you're processing forty five orders you need all the efficiencies you can get.  Please, please put your address at the top.  Next time people who don't follow instructions may find their orders are filled last!

Your orders have an invoice enclosed with the amount owed.  When you pay it's important to note on PayPal or on your check that you are paying for Seed Exchange 480.  Do not confuse or combine payments with bulb exchanges.  Our treasurer Arnold has been given a list of what everyone owes and matches payments with invoices.  It's important to pay your invoices promptly because you won't be allowed to participate in future seed and bulb exchanges if you're not paid up.  I've been notified that I have seed coming from Brazil Plants so I'll be running an exchange for this seed in the near future.

Enjoy your seed when it arrives.

Happy growing,

Jan Jeddeloh
